Icelandic metal band Drungi is poised to take the music world by storm with their upcoming debut album Hamfarir Hugans, set to release on April 5th. Offering a haunting blend of rock, black‘n‘roll, and doom, Drungi‘s music is an immersive journey through the landscapes and folklore of their homeland.
Their first glimpse into this mystical realm comes with the release of their single “Alda” (Wave), a powerful ode to the depths of emotion and the vastness of the ocean.
On the song, the band says,
“Following the intense feeling of drowning in one’s emotion and the sometimes suicidal feelings one has following a downforce of emotion, the song emphasizes that feeling with a rhythm pushing the oceanic feeling forward.”
Consisting of vocalist Sjafnar Björgvinsson, lead guitarist Rúnar Gunnarsson, rhythm guitarist Loki Gunnarsson, bassist Magnús Ólafsson, and drummer Sandra Bergþórsdóttir, Drungi formed in 2019 and have created a sound that is both mesmerizing and ferocious.
Inspired by the Icelandic saying “Að ganga í sjóinn” or “walking into the ocean,” the song delves into themes of drowning in emotion and the overwhelming feeling of being consumed by one’s own thoughts. With a rhythm that mimics the ebb and flow of the ocean, “Alda” captures the intensity of these emotions, drawing listeners into a dark and captivating sonic landscape.
“Alda” is a haunting and chilling journey into to Drungi‘s sonic universe.
