“Burning in Our Name” the latest from Max Blansjaar‘s highly anticipated debut album, False Comforts out on June 2, follows the success of “Anna Madonna” and showcases Max’s raw honesty and authenticity from the very first note.
Max says this of the song,
“I wrote this song in one sitting — it was a stream-of-consciousness kind of thing. How many times had I turned on the radio and heard about ‘generational challenges’? How does the individual fit into that picture? From the moment we’re born, how many fires have already been started in our name? Politics is personal, and what seem like huge, sprawling issues can affect our lives in small, everyday ways. We recorded most of the song to cassette using a six-track Tascam tape recorder. I left the tape in the studio in Brooklyn by mistake — I’ll go and pick it up one day.”
Exploding with infectious and upbeat energy, “Burning in Our Name” is soaked with catchy harmonies and melodies, but it’s Max’s songwriting that truly steals the spotlight. As a writer myself, and someone who’s twice Max’s age, I can’t help but feel a twinge of envy of his talent and introspective depth that he already has at his age.
“Burning in Our Name” is catchy, fun, and downright brilliant.
