The latest track “C’est La Vie” from Brother Valiant, the alter ego of AJ Amsterdam, is a heartfelt new single that is a poignant exploration of the challenges and complexities of personal change, especially when motivated by love.
Inspired by the folk legend Paul Simon and the likes of Conor Oberst, Brother Valiant‘s sound is a blend of emotional lyricism and catchy choruses and melodies. “C’est La Vie” is no exception. Weaving a tapestry of dreamy melodies and heart wrenching lyrics, the song reflects on the struggle to alter ingrained habits and behaviours for someone while also embracing the acceptance of one’s unchangeable quirks.
Brother Valiant shares,
“Mostly, I found it overwhelming to the point where I’d fall back into old habits and behaviors. The premise of the song is accepting that deep down, to an extent, we are always going to have certain qualities and quirks that we cannot change about ourselves. However, despite faltering when trying to change certain negative aspects, I believe expressing feelings of love, compassion, and acceptance through action is still paramount on the journey towards being a good person.”
With the soft brush strokes of the drums and the quiet vulnerable guitars, “C’est La Vie” is an endearing and heartfelt confession of love. Irresistible and charming, “C’est La Vie” is authentic and beautiful.
