LISTEN: “Dance We Do” by Annie Dressner

Music
Shelia Taylor
January 12, 2024

From her upcoming album, I Thought It Would Be Easier (April 5th, Dharma Records), Annie Dressner has released another gently infectious track with “Dance We Do”.

In the latest from the NYC singer-songwriter, Annie ponders the ‘do they, don’t they’ questions when it comes to a relationship.

On the song, Annie says,

“This is a love song about someone who has put themselves out there over and again, but only to be turned down and let down. There are some people with whom you cannot tell where you stand.”

The upbeat tempo of “Dance We Do” is full of zest and bounce with its minimal guitars and drums and Annie’s effervescent voice tugs at the heart strings with her honest look at love. In the song’s simplicity, it’s complex with honesty, raw emotion, and heart.

With the album on the horizon, Annie says this,

‘“I Thought It Would Be Easier” encompasses the theme of the record. I didn’t realise how hard life could be and would be at certain times. I hope that the record will resonate with people. Perhaps they have gone through similar things and therefore feel heard and comforted by the songs. Maybe the songs can express the listener’s emotions that they couldn’t articulate themselves. Or maybe people will just like the way that they sound! I guess I just hope people like the record… I know I do!”

If the album is anything like “Dance We Do”, “Black and White”, and “18 Years”, then Annie Dressner needs not worry. She is easily expressing emotions for listeners, myself included, and we are all loving what she is sharing so far.
