LISTEN: “Did Santa Come” by Frog

Music
Shelia Taylor
December 9, 2024

Frog’s new single, “Did Santa Come,” is a festive gem that captures the joy and wonder of the holiday season with a refreshing sincerity. This track marks the band’s first preview of their upcoming sixth album, 1000 Variations on the Same Song (February 2025), and it brims with the heartfelt charm Frog fans have come to love.

Inspired by co-founder Daniel Bateman’s son, the song reflects on the simple beauty of experiencing the holidays through a child’s eyes.

Daniel shares,

“This song is about my son when he was two years old at Christmas time. Every morning for 2-3 weeks after, he would wake up and ask, ‘Did Santa come?’ Seeing the world through the eyes of your children makes it all very beautiful.”

What makes “Did Santa Come” so engaging is its ability to lean into the naivety and magic of the season without feeling overly sentimental. The track blends Frog’s signature lo-fi indie style with subtle festive flourishes, creating a sound that feels both intimate and celebratory. The addition of Daniel’s brother Steve Bateman on drums adds a rhythmic warmth that complements the song’s narrative perfectly.

As the first offering from their highly anticipated album, “Did Santa Come” is a delightful reminder of Frog’s knack for pairing everyday moments with evocative melodies. Whether you’re decking the halls or reminiscing about childhood Christmases, this track is sure to bring a smile to your face and warmth to your playlist.
