LISTEN: “Dog Days” by Krooked Tongue

Music
Shelia Taylor
August 11, 2025

Krooked Tongue’s latest single, “Dog Days”, distills the unruly magic of first love into something both grounded and electric. Built from an acoustic skeleton and later fleshed out with their signature amplified grit, the track retains the unvarnished pulse of its origins. One can hear the bones of the original track beneath the production and it makes the song feel like a memory they may have forgotten.

Vocalist Oli Rainsford says,

I feel like ‘Dog Days’ is a tune that perfectly sums up that feeling of teenage love; There’s a chaotic beauty in teenage love. It’s everything and nothing all at once. We trick ourselves into thinking that this moment, right now, is all there will ever be.

Those emotions seep into every bar. The bass-forward mix is an unexpected choice for such a tender theme, but it works as the heartbeat of the song by pushing it forward while allowing the shimmering guitar lines to swirl like heat haze.

What makes “Dog Days” stand out isn’t just its tonal balance, but its emotional clarity. It beautifully captures the conviction that young love has and where it seems the world pauses just for your summer romance. While I am far removed from my teenage years, the track preserves the golden-weather version of those years with friends always close by, days stretching endlessly, and love burning hot enough to eclipse everything else.

With “Dog Days”, Krooked Tongue doesn’t just write about youth; they frame it in amber, imperfections and all, and invite one to hold it up to the light.
