Ceiling Spirits, spearheaded by the enigmatic Milwaukee musician Mario Quadracci, brings together musical talents such as Brian Devendorf from The National and Eric Sanderson from Augustines. The theatrical prelude, “Falter,” serves as a thrilling indication of what further lies ahead on The Bloodwren (April 12) album.
Considered non-linearly, “Falter” occupies a crucial position within the overarching Bloodwren narrative. Its dynamic interplay of tempo from fast to slow is meticulously crafted to capture the intricate nuances of human frailty.
Mario says this of the piece,
“The album is composed as if the music were accompanying a film. ‘Falter’ in particular is written like a film score with every second of music corresponding to a detailed script. The music uses various repeating patterns of different lengths to create textures that are simultaneously lulling and unnerving.”
“Falter” is a reflection that offers a momentary respite from the encroaching darkness of the world before it confronts the sobering reality of inner turmoil within the vast expansiveness of the consciousness.
