Musicians and artists in general often get a bad reputation as having “dumb” jobs or even being “dumb”. Offspring fans know this is far from the truth as frontman Dexter Holland has a Ph.D in molecular biology.
Continuing to break the stigma that musicians are dumb is vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and producer John Atkinson who was inspired by the positive effects music can have on the brain while earning his masters in Educational Psychology.
With the knowledge and inspiration from his education, John relearned guitar and decided to make music letting his passion for Tool, Hum, Jane’s Addiction, PJ Harvey, and AC/DC take hold.
Under the appropriately named Psychology with Dave Richman on drums, the first single from the band, “First Contact” is about the moment John met his wife.
A blend of intense and fierce, soft and malleable, “First Contact” is a song that has wonderful distortion and fuzzed out guitars and heartfelt lyrics of meeting the one.
