Swedish artist NOEL’s new single, “Flowers at a Funeral,” is a striking example of raw and heartfelt songwriting. The track showcases NOEL’s ability to convey deep personal truths with a voice well beyond his years.
With its hymnal vibe, the song’s standout feature is its unvarnished lyrical honesty and vocal vulnerability as NOEL reflects on a relationship that unravelled despite its outward promise.
The artist admits,
“’Flowers at a Funeral’ is a really raw and honest song about a relationship that deserved a better ending. On paper everything was great, and in my head it felt right. However, I just couldn’t get my heart to feel what my head wanted it to, and with that came a lot of shame. It felt unfair to the other person, who is such an incredible individual. I wanted the sound to match the lyrics in a way that both are vulnerable and raw. The title ‘Flowers at a Funeral’ focuses mostly on how easy it is to miss the beauty of things in the moment due to being swept up in a situation coloured by sadness or struggle.”
The confession is combined with a swelling chorus that creates a powerful emotional release that will echo with anyone who has experienced the complexity of unfulfilled love. “Flowers at a Funeral” is proof to NOEL’s skill in blending contemplative verses with dynamic music that truly captures the weight of an emotional journey.
“Flowers at a Funeral” is vulnerable, heartbreaking, and beautiful.
