Have you ever listened to a song and found yourself saying, ‘oh damn!’?
Liv Miraldi’s latest single, “Friend of the Family” did just that.
Following her single, “Denver”, the track is an honest if not pointed look at the feelings that arise from an adulterous affair.
On the song, Liv confides,
“‘Friend of the Family’ was something I was afraid to talk about, so I knew I had to write it. I gave myself the space to feel the full range of my emotions. The song details the complexity of infidelity through the daughter’s point of view. This sad indie bop is an instant tear jerker that is sure to bring the feels.”
While Liv may see the song as a sad song, it is anything but. “Friend of the Family” is not only brilliant storytelling, it’s real. Liv hides behind no facade of happy pain, but unleashes a wealth of emotions that cut yet heal. There is a strength to “Friend of the Family” and it lies in the lyrics when Liv confesses she’d ‘rather blame her’. It’s that moment of recognition that love still exists within and though there is fault and maybe hate towards one the power of a daughter’s love can rise above it.
