LISTEN: “Kingsbury” by Lift the Curse

From the Lone Star State (Texas), Lift the Curse is dynamic duo Ryan Hegefeld (vocals, guitar, drums) and Jon Yadon Jr. (guitar, bass, and background vocals) and the best friends just released their latest single, “Kingsbury”.

And let me tell ya, if you’re a fan of solid, melodic, rock, then both “Kingsbury” and Lift the Curse are sure to satiate the rock appetite.

Originally an acoustic from their recent album Suffer and Survive, the duo has plugged in and upgraded the song to a loud and rocking version.

On the the song, Ryan says,

The meaning behind the song is about the place where I grew up. A ranch in Texas that has my whole heart forever. I luckily called it home for a long time. I wrote hundreds of songs there, grew up deer hunting, made amazing memories with friends and family. Ultimately it’s my idea of heaven. My place.

I found the plugged in version to convey the heartfelt emotion of what Ryan speaks about more than the original acoustic version. There’s a little more oomph and passion in the electric version and that is helped of course by electric guitars that wail with a longing that an acoustic guitar cannot channel.

As a touching ode to a place that is dear, “Kingsbury” could be any place that encourages one to grow and become the person they are meant to be. It’s a reminder that home isn’t necessarily the four walls of a house, but a vast experience lived across a place or land that shapes one’s soul.
