With her debut EP, Echoes of Goodbye set to be released on March 29th, Shelby Lynn Madison’s latest single, “Leave the Leaving” is the epitome of heartbreak country.
With a twang in her voice, the Virginia based singer looks at the complications of goodbyes. While goodbyes are a part of life, it doesn’t make it any easier to deal with them when it comes time.
On the song, she says,
“I wrote ‘Leave the Leaving’ as a reflection on the challenge of expressing love so deeply that you can’t bear to witness the departure of a loved one. It’s about shouldering the blame and taking on the burden of saying goodbye yourself.”
What I like about Shelby Lynn Madison is that her voice is rooted in country’s more traditional style but she is nonetheless creating music that is uncomplicated, effortless, direct, and heartfelt. She allows her vocals to showcase the raw emotions of the lyrics with a strength and beauty that hits at the heart.
That strength and beauty is what makes “Leave the Leaving” a wonderful ballad that tugs at the heart and gently softens the heaviness of goodbyes.
