Known for her enchanting performances alongside Stella Donnelly in Bells Rapids, as part of Ghost Care, and as the bass player for Paige Valentine, Perth’s Tanaya Harper has stepped out on her own. With her ethereal voice, the luminous figure is capturing hearts and ears with her latest single, “Night Terrors.”
In “Night Terrors”, Tanaya explores the disconnection of ego and the id. Specifically, the relentless illusion that the ego’s in control of it all.
On the song, she says,
“I was making decisions that clearly weren’t in alignment with my needs and wants, and yet somehow I was still forging ahead, silencing my inner voice and letting my fears and ego run the show in romantic relationships.”
In Tanaya’s disconnection she had created a connection of her heart and soul to the heart and soul of one listening. It’s through the wisdom of her lyrics that she offers not only a glimpse into the mind but a feeling of being heard. Her delicate vocals are layered on top of lush strings and horns that beckon and follow like a heavenly choir. The music feels surreal as if I’m being transported into an old classic Disney movie as Tanaya cautiously balances the internal struggles of finding equilibrium among the turbulence.
Engaging, exquisite, and beautifully sung, “Night Terrors” is a radiant song that connects one to their soul.
