From the upcoming album Troubadour (Nov 14th), Tiberius’ “Sag” is a scrappy, sardonic, and fully self aware song that claws through self-doubt without slipping into self-pity. Tiberius, once the solo project of Brendan Wright, now thrives as a four-piece, and this track makes the most of that evolution.
The rhythm section drives like a van on its last legs, and the pedal steel flares through the edges like someone letting light into a room they’d rather keep dark. There’s a push and pull tension at the song’s core, as if the band is grappling with the same questions Brendan’s lyrics are about. Purpose, place, and what it means to stay when everyone else leaves.
The production keeps things gritty and loose, by letting each instrument feel live, flawed even, and real. “Sag” isn’t shiny and polished and that makes it stick.Pairing big feelings with small and sharp details, Tiberius taps into scene wide anxiety with humour and bite.
