Hazlett‘s new single, “Shiver,” is a contemplative and stirring addition to the folk musician’s catalogue, released earlier in July as part of his forthcoming EP Goodbye to the Valley Low Part 2, out October 4 via Nettwerk. The track is a testament to Hazlett’s ability to weave intricate acoustic guitar fingerpicking with deeply philosophical lyrics, creating an introspective and relatable listening experience.
“Shiver” begins with a sparse arrangement, allowing Hazlett‘s vocals and intricate guitar work to take centre stage. The song slowly builds in pace and intensity, reflecting the internal struggle Hazlett describes.
“I’ve always had this tug-o-war in my head of how much control do I really have of my life?”
This sentiment resonates throughout the track, capturing the universal dilemma of making life’s choices and trusting in the journey.
Recorded in an off-grid cabin in the Scandinavian wilderness, Goodbye to the Valley Low is a project born from solitude and reflection. The first part of this EP, released last year, captivated listeners with its delicate indie-folk melodies and personal anecdotes. Hazlett‘s collaboration with producer Freddy Alexander shines through once again in “Shiver,” highlighting their ability to create music that is both timeless and deeply personal.
The new EP completes Hazlett‘s project, offering six additional tracks that, along with the first EP, form a cohesive twelve-track album. Hazlett describes the process:
“If Side A was the curiosity of the cabin then Side B is working through all the questions that it left behind.”
This new collection promises to delve deeper into the themes of introspection and growth that have defined Hazlett‘s recent work. With “Shiver” and the upcoming EP, Hazlett continues to solidify his place in the indie-folk scene, offering fans a blend of vulnerability and quiet confidence that is uniquely his own.
“Shiver” is out now, and Goodbye to the Valley Low Part 2 will be available on October 4.
