“sleepwalking” the latest from ROREY is a dreamy indie pop gem that captures the essence of feeling adrift in one’s own life. Written during a tumultuous period following her bipolar disorder diagnosis in 2021, “sleepwalking” is part of her sophomore EP, Dysphoria.
Reflecting on her experience, ROREY describes “sleepwalking” as her disassociation anthem. She further explains
“I wanted to paint this vivid image of me walking down the street experiencing life in a way that made absolutely no sense. I felt so delusional and removed at the time; (sleepwalking) through life in this almost dream-like state”.
With its hypnotic melodies and hazy vocals that blur the line between reality and fantasy her personal narrative is woven into the song’s ethereal production, which invites one to explore their own subconscious realms. It’s ROREY‘s ability to translate her inner turmoil into hauntingly beautiful music that allows her to continually push the boundaries of the so-called bedroom pop genre.
Not only does ROREY deliver raw and introspective lyrics paired with unforgettable hooks in “sleepwalking”, she has created a mantra for those who have ever felt disconnected from their own reality.
