As someone who took roughly twenty years to complete one novel, I fully understand a twenty-five year delay on a debut album.
The debut album Linear B by Herald will be out on June 14th, but one can hear the lead single, “Soul Ronnie” now. The track is a sonic tapestry woven from Lawrence Worthington‘s, the man behind Herald, hitchhiking adventures through France decades earlier.
On the song, Lawrence says,
“A long while back I hitched around France and ran out of money on the way home. I made it to the port but had to stand in the car park all day trying to find a driver that would sneak me onto the boat. When I finally made it, I began to pass out and in my head was this amazing music. I scribbled down some notes, but all I could read when I awoke was ‘Kraftwerk/Da Doo Ron Ron’. 30 years later ‘Soul Ronnie’ is that piece of paper as well as I can recall it.”
The fleeting melodies echo Herald’s mind and capture the essence of a journey both physical and spiritual. With a penchant for storytelling, “Soul Ronnie” is a neo-psychedelic gem, pulsating with raw energy and ethereal charm. Its hypnotic rhythms and vivid lyrics transport listeners on a transcendent voyage, where the boundaries between past and present blur into a seamless continuum of sound.
What began as a scribbled note on a piece of paper during a moment of vulnerability and uncertainty has blossomed into a captivating musical odyssey.
