The latest from Niagara’s Lonely Little Kitsch, “Stuck In Place” showcases the band’s signature blend of indie rock, shoegaze, and alt-rock, with a nostalgic nod to the iconic sounds of the ’70s.
Or as guitar and vocalist, Nolan Jodes calls it, ‘Fleetwood Grunge’.
His categorization is actually a perfect description of “Stuck In Place”. With vocalist Kristen Goetz channelling a less witchy version of Stevie Nicks, she and Nolan are a beautiful blend of heart and soul. Their strong dynamic can easily be heard through the yin and yang of their vocals.
Kristen says this about the song,
“On the surface, ‘Stuck In Place’ seems like a song about hating your hometown. But it’s actually about waking up one day and realizing that everyone else has moved on without you. They left to pursue their dreams and passions, while you don’t seem to have any. You’re stuck where you’ve always been, feeling left behind without a purpose or drive.”
While that feeling of being left behind can be heard in the duo’s vocals, it also reverberates throughout the music. “Stuck In Place” envelops one in a warm and ethereal haze. The hypnotic sonic tapestry gives one a melancholic hug that is also simultaneously hopeful about what may be ahead.
In “Stuck In Place”, Lonely Little Kitsch embraces the raw and unfiltered emotions of being lost but it is clear that the duo themselves are far from being stuck or lost, they have carved out a perfect slice of music that is authentic and perfectly harmonious and melodic.
