LISTEN: “Troubled Mind” by Sarah O’Moore

I have been itching to share Sarah O’Moore’s latest single, “Troubled Mind” since I first heard it because it shook me to the very core. Sarah’s voice made me stop dead in my tracks and do a triple take. Her stunning voice doesn’t match the blue-eyed blonde nightingale’s appearance.

There’s a scene in the movie Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels where Soap asks, ‘What do they say about assumption being the brother of all fuck-ups?’ and Tom responds with ‘It’s the mother of all fuck-ups, stupid!’

And that sums me up. I assumed based on appearance I was going to hear an ethereal delicateness and what I got was a bonafide soul stirring powerhouse.

And I do mean soul stirring.

I imagine that if the late Amy Winehouse was here, she and Sarah would have dueted and blown the world to smithereens. Their voices would have complimented each other beautifully, but I suppose Sarah will just have to defy sound and blow minds away on her own.

From her forthcoming debut EP, Social Paralysis (May 28), she wrote this of the song,

“‘Troubled Mind’ delves into themes of addiction, domestic strife, and the challenges faced by today’s youth, all layered over rich musical textures.”

She further adds,

“I wanted to give voice to those silenced by their own battles, shedding light on the complexities of modern life.”

There is an elegant and subtle sadness to the music of “Troubled Mind.” It brings to life the discord Sarah sings about, but it’s her vocals that carry the message home. She beautifully shows within her vocal depths the heartache, conflict, and opposition being faced.

Sarah O’Moore is a bonafide powerhouse and “Troubled Mind” is a soul stirring look at the world today.
