LISTEN: “Twist in My Sobriety” by Sirenia

Music
Shelia Taylor
March 26, 2023

Symphonic metal is a relatively new genre of metal for me and I’ve enjoyed discovering the extensive players in the genre and this is my first time listening to Sirenia.

I’m kind of hooked. I am enamoured by the vocal talents of Emmanuelle Zoldan.

In Sirenia’s latest single, a cover of Tanita Tikaram’s “Twist in my Sobriety” from their upcoming 11th studio album, 1977 (May 26, Napalm Records), Emmanuelle’s voice resonates with wonderful bass, depth, and soul.

Morten Veland, the band’s ringleader, said this of the cover,

‘Twist in my Sobriety’ is the first single from our upcoming album entitled 1977. This is the bonus track of our 11th album, and it is a cover version of Tanita Tikaram’s original from 1988. I have loved this song since it was released, and it has a very melancholic vibe to it, so it felt like an interesting project to make a Sirenia version of it. I hope that you will enjoy it while we wait for the upcoming album release.
