Ahead of their debut album, I Know a Place (April 24th), Krooked Tongue has released a fuzzed-out banger with “Blood Shark”.
“Blood Shark” doesn’t ease one in. It grabs one by the collar and drags them straight into the churn. The track feels restless and combustible from the first blast of guitars. Further powered by breakneck drums and a wall of distortion that never quite lets one catch their breath, Krooked Tongue thrives in that tension of stacking snarling vocals against punchy and almost confrontational hooks that are built to be shouted back at the band in a sweat-soaked room.
Beneath the grit and aggression sits a gnawing anxiety about stagnation. We all know that creeping fear of standing still while life barrels on.
On the song, Oli Rainsford (vocals/bass) says,
‘Blood Shark’ is a jumper cable to the lazy and uninspired aspects of ourselves. A fat uppercut to our excuses for why we can’t, or don’t do the things we want to do.
This statement can be heard in Oli’s vocal delivery. It’s less like storytelling and more like an accusation. As if the song itself is daring you to prove it wrong. There’s a frantic edge to the way the track twists and twins that mirrors the mental spiral of being trapped between comfort and the need to change.
It’s heavy without being blunt, chaotic without losing focus, and brimming with the kind of raw intent that separates cathartic noise from something genuinely motivating. Krooked Tongue aren’t just making a racket. When it’s all said and done and “Blood Shark”, it shows the band is lighting a fire, daring one to move, to grow, and they refuse the easy way out.
