Saying goodbye is never easy and some arrive through conflict. Others happen quietly, long before either person says the words out loud. Andrew Cushin’s “Goodbye” lives in the quieter space where self-doubt makes the decision before love has the chance to.
Built around bright guitar hooks and an infectious chorus, the song creates an interesting contradiction. While the music keeps reaching upward, the lyrics remain caught in the hesitation that comes from believing someone deserves better than you. This contrast never feels forced, but it does capture the strange way regret often disguises itself as acceptance.
The opening line doesn’t read as blame or even heartbreak. It sounds like someone filling in the blanks on another person’s behalf. It assumes the rejection before it ever arrives. The song’s emotion isn’t directed at the relationship, but at the instinct to surrender before vulnerability has a chance to be tested.
Tension runs through Andrew’s performance but he doesn’t try to oversell it. He allows the melody to carry optimism that the narrator can’t quite believe, and the result is a song that feels caught between two futures. One where hope remains possible and another where fear has already decided the outcome.
“Goodbye” recognises how easily self-worth can become the loudest voice in the room and how it can convince one that walking away is easier than waiting to find out whether they were ever meant to stay.
