The Darts are ushering in a new chapter with “Midnight Creep” from their forthcoming album Halloween Love Song (March 3rd). While the ripper of a track leans into horror pop, the band doesn’t lose its grime or their bite. Opening with Farfisa keys and weaving through fuzzed filled guitar and a rhythm section that stays sly more than heavy-handed, the song is built to keep bodies shifting rather than standing still. Nicole Laurenne’s vocals are confident with swagger and guide the song like a late-night invitation into something strange and fun. Tipping its hate toward monster-movie classics, “Midnight Creep” shows a clear affection for rock and roll’s shadowy corners but it’s also freakishly delicious.
