There’s an undeniable fuck around and find out attitude running through Devildriver’s latest single, “Strike and Kill”. The title track from their forthcoming release on July 9th arrives swinging, dragging thick and grinding riffs behind it. The whole song feels like a confrontation that began before the first lands.
The weight of the track instinctively pulls your face into the unmistakable metal grimace with Devildriver locking into a slick groove that refuses to let up or let go. Every beat and riff lands with a menacing punch and Dez Fafara’s vocal performance sounds less like blind rage and more like a verdict already delivered.
That distinction matters because the anger of the song isn’t aimed at the world. It feels aimed at someone who mistook loyalty for weakness and consequence for something that happened to other people. The lyrics don’t celebrate violence. They’re more interested in the moment when denial finally runs out of places to hide. Just as importantly, the band never lets the song slip into empty posturing. Their fury is directed, controlled, and completely committed, making “Strike and Kill” feel less like a threat and more like the sound of consequences finally catching up.
