I love when a band is innovative and Rare American’s is spinning the idea of how to release an album on its head.
Out today is Act 1 of Searching for Strawberries: The Story of Jongo Bongo.
Searching for Strawberries: The Story of Jongo Bongo is the tale of their bass player Jongo Bongo where he says goodbye to the hustle and bustle of a corporate job and goes on a journey of self-discovery on the Santiago De Camino, a 500 mile expedition through Spain.
The 3 songs within Act 1 of Searching for Strawberries: The Story of Jongo Bongo sets up the adventure of Jongo.
The entry into Jongo’s world starts with “Money” and his acceptance into the corporate world and honestly, it’s the perfect song to describe corporate life. The lyrics of “Money” and the animated video that comes with it perfectly nails the hustle, the bustle, the go, go, go of work hard and there will be a ‘reward’.
But that reward rarely comes…
With “Milk & Honey”, Rare Americans continue to perfectly nail the zombie life that a 9-5 job can have on one’s soul. The lyrics and beats are melodic and infectious and the accompanying section of the Act 1 video is so fantastic. There were moments where I felt that it was an animated version of The Wolves of Wall Street and laughed out loud at a few scenes.
But the stand out track and video portion of Act 1, is “Stay Curious”. It is lyrical poetry in motion with beautiful sticky beats that just sink into one’s ears. The lyrics take you on a journey as does the video. It’s a wonderful moment where you know that one’s soul is about to make a life altering change for the betterment of their life.
Searching for Strawberries: The Story of Jongo Bongo, Act 1 is captivating storytelling. Through catchy lyrics and infectious beats, Rare Americans has created a wonderful narrative of a soul in search of something more but the innovativeness and creativeness of the band further the narrative with a fantastic video to accompany the music journey.
Act II will be out on June 19th
Act III will be out on July 7th
