SOUND CHECK: Human Herds by UUHAI

Music Review
Shelia Taylor
January 10, 2026

Human Herds, the debut album from UUHAI is a debut album that defies comparison. From the first track, the band blends throat singing and horsehead fiddles with a driving rock energy that creates a sound that is rooted in history and modernity. The title track “Human Herds” moves like a galloping procession by pairing natural imagery with warnings about humanity’s impact on the Earth. While “Uuhai” channels historical strength into an anthemic chant that demands attention. Across the album, UUHAI shifts seamlessly between moments where ritual and tradition feel intimate and immediate, but the tracks are built for collective intensity by inviting participation even for those unfamiliar with the Mongolian language. “Secret History of the Mongols” closes the record with a measured guitar solo and recurring “uuhai” calls. It leaves a sense of connection that stretches beyond geography or culture. Human Herds turn cultural specificity into a universal power. One that offers heavy music that feels alive, purposeful, and uncommonly original.
