For me, BUTCH WALKER ranks up there in prolific songwriters like RYAN ADAMS and MATTHEW RYAN.
He knows how to write a song that touches ones soul in whatever form of a band he’s in and he’s been in a few: BYTE THE BULLET, SOUTHGANG, THE FLOYDS, MARVELOUS 3, 1969 and BUTCH WALKER AND THE BLACK WIDOWS, and as a solo artist.
His last release PEACHTREE BATTLE EP was released just after his father passed away in 2013 and he’s gifting the Universe a new full length album AFRAID OF GHOSTS on Dangerbird Records. Granted the album won’t be released until February 3, 2015.
The first release off the new album is “CHRISSIE HYNDE” and Butch says, “It’s a little love story about a guy who has to go serve a long sentence in prison, and say goodbye for now to his family. So he savors every moment of the last few hours of freedom he has.”
Guests on AFRAID OF GHOSTS include RYAN ADAMS, who produced it, and Johnny Depp, Mike Viola, Bob Mould, and and more. Listen to “Chrissie Hynde” below and let us know what you think about the new song. Have you already pre-ordered it?
