A CONVERSATION WITH…Bitter Kisses

One week ago, Bitter Kisses, released their debut single, “Pr*y” and we are thrilled to give you our first interview with the fab four UK sensation that will surely be everyone’s favourite band of 2023.

If you’ve not listened to “Pr*y, why the hell not?

“Pr*y” is bright, bold, and thunderous like an apex predator on the hunt and our ears are its prey, ready to succumb to the music. The band has unleashed an infectious and catchy debut single that everyone and their grandma can enjoy!

We have to thank Bitter Kisses for their time and for one of the funnest interviews we’ve done.

ATN: What brought you all together as a band?

BK: We got together as a group in mid-2022, as we’d all just left our previous bands and were desperate to work with pretty much anyone.

After one practice room jam, we agreed that we could put up with one another and so far we’ve just about stayed friends.

ATN: How did you settle on a band name?

BK: A tournament between the creators of the two best options: extreme frisbee to the death

We used to be a five-piece. The sordid details of how we ended up with BITTER KISSES are now too painful to recall.

ATN: If you had to describe Bitter Kisses in 3 words, what would they be?

BK: Heavy / Infectious / Groovy

ATN: Being that you guys formed last year, do you think you’re still in the honeymoon phase of the band or have you reached a comfortable marriage status?

BK: Let’s just say that we’ve done a bit too much for an annulment by this stage.

We’ve got a great harmony together now and started to settle into a good groove, but we’re still happy to experiment whenever we get the chance.

ATN: What is the music creation with the band like?

BK: It usually goes this way: Thomas brings us pop songs, Gemma, Josh and Scarl make them angrier.

Other times, Gemma, Josh or Scarl will bring an angry song and Thomas will make it ‘poppier’.

ATN: With a trio of vocals available, how do you guys decide who will sing which parts?

BK: Gemma and Thomas are the best singers and they take turns with the most important lines, based off of the style or pitch of any given part. If they’re both already busy singing and we need a third vocal, Josh is allowed to sing too.

ATN: Congratulations on the release of your debut single, “Pr*y”! What has the feedback been so far from your fans?

BK: We’ve been really blown away by all the positive feedback so far and are so pleased that people are enjoying our firstborn track. We can’t wait to take it on the road and play it live now!

ATN: With BBC Radio One as a champion which is not a shabby champion to have, how has other industry reaction been to “Pr*y”?

BK: Thank you, we were greatly surprised to have received Alyx Holcombe’s mark of approval on “Pr*y” and couldn’t believe it when we heard!

We’ve been a little overwhelmed by all the amazing shows and publications, such as yourselves at, that have wanted to get involved and help us spread the word. Thank you so much!

ATN: You’re very welcome for the support. How are you guys feeling about the release?

BK: Relieved to have finally gotten it out into the world! We’ve had to keep the song and video to ourselves for so long now, so it feels brilliant to set them free at last.

ATN: In your eyes, what would success look like for “Pr*y”?

BK: Being able to afford a band bowling trip from the streaming royalties.

ATN: In “Pr*y”, we are getting a bit of a Human League at the end of the song as Thomas sings. Who inspired you growing up and who inspires you now?

BK: “Uh, I guess David Bowie was a major influence for me growing up, then it was Thom Yorke from Radiohead. And nowadays… maybe Josh Butcher from BITTER KISSES?”
~Thomas Adams, c. 2023
quoted verbatim by Josh Butcher

ATN: With the release of “Pr*y” aside, what else is on the horizon for Bitter Kisses?

BK: We’ve got a pretty packed 2023 coming up: recording 4 more songs, going on a few mini-tours around the UK with our friends and ‘Pr*ying’ (see what we did there) to not be wiped out by nuclear armageddon.

SAME 3 QUESTIONS WE ALWAYS ASK

ATN: Artist / band that you feel is the most underrated and why?

BK: As a full band* we have agreed that XTC is the most underrated band. Their songwriting ability is sublime and near unmatched by almost all artists before and after. They crafted incredible pop songs with beautiful arrangements and it’s truly a crime that more people haven’t heard them. Go and listen to “Dear God” now!

*Josh answered this, the rest of the band wanted to put Spice Girls.

ATN: Artist / band that you would like to collaborate with and why?

BK: Spiritbox, for Courtney LaPlante’s awesome vocals and their ability to write stupidly catchy tunes

ATN: Artist / band that you would like to tour with and why?

BK: Queens Of The Stone Age, because we love them.
