EP REVIEW: Violent and Murderous Thoughts by Morgue Terror

Morgue Terror’s latest EP, Violent and Murderous Thoughts, is a chilling exploration into the grotesque and macabre that delivers a brutal homage to the darker side of death metal. Set to release on August 23, this EP is an evolution for the band that is now bolstered by the formidable drumming of Dustin Klimek (ex-Full of Hell). This addition brings a fresh, aggressive pulse to their already ferocious sound, marking a significant shift from their prior work.

The EP’s thematic content delves into the sordid tales of infamous serial killers and a depraved cult that weaves tales of violence and brutality. Each song is a sonic depiction of savagery, with lyrics painting vivid, unsettling portraits of figures like the Chessboard Killer and Aileen Wuornos.

From the outset, Violent and Murderous Thoughts emphasises a groove-heavy approach rather than sheer velocity. This shift is exemplified in the lead single “Neanderthal,” featuring a guest appearance by Chaney Crabb of Entheos. Chaney’s intense vocal delivery complements Morgue Terror’s dense, crushing riffs, adding a layer of ferocity to an already punishing track. The collaboration underscores the band’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of their genre while maintaining a visceral edge.

Dustin’s drumming adds a raw and organic feel that amplifies the brutal impact of the riffs and blends seamlessly with the band’s previous sonic elements. The tracks are crafted to envelop one in a suffocating ambiance that mirrors the harrowing tales they recount.

Violent and Murderous Thoughts shows Morgue Terror’s ability to blend old-school death metal with a more contemporary and dissonant edge. The result is an EP that is both a harrowing journey into darkness and a testament to the band’s evolving sound. Extreme, brutal, and atmospherically grim.
