ALBUM REVIEW: After Dark by Infernalizer

Infernalizer’s latest creation, After Dark, is an exploration of heavy metal’s many facets, conceived and brought to life by the talented Claudio Ravinale. Known for his role as the frontman of Italian death metal veterans, Disarmonia Mundi, Claudio steps into a new realm with Infernalizer, drawing influence from a range of musical icons.

While the album draws from the classic sounds of 80’s metal legends like Iron Maiden, Alice Cooper, and Danzig, Infernalizer adds a twist, infusing gloomy keys and eerie samples that also pay homage to gothic gods like Type O Negative and The Sisters Of Mercy and Claudio’s vocal style, evokes comparison to Rob Zombie and Wednesday 13.

After Dark skillfully balances moments of aggression with haunting gothic allure and uses keyboards throughout to conjure up classic horror movie themes. Tracks “What Did You Expect” and “What We Do in the Shadows” are love letters to 80’s hard rock when wailing vocals and guitars reigned supreme. Echoing with goth energy are, “Death Wish,” “This is My Yard,” and “Falling in Slow Motion” while “Moon of Blood,” and “After Dark” are the songs that bring out the previously vocal comparisons.

On the album, Claudio says,

This is pure and simple entertainment. I’m not here to preach, I’m not here to make the world a better place, I simply want people to have a good time listening to this music, nothing else.

Good time achieved.

After Dark perfectly epitomises what Infernalizer is as a band. It blends the plethora of metal styles with ease and adds catchy lyrics, infectious melodies, and one helluva good time.
