ALBUM REVIEW: III by Cancervo

As “Intro” starts on Cancervo’s third LP III, it feels like the beginning of a vampire movie. The organ paints a vibrant picture of cold Carpathian mountains, or in the case of Cancervo, their namesake near Bergamo, and the faint air of death linger around the corner.

Out now, III is soaked in mythical and traditional folklore. The Italian doom mountaineers continue the occult narriatves of not only their land but that can be heard on their previous albums, I and II. With I being an instrumenta narrative of occult dooml, III follows in its predecessor and incorporates both.

While only five tracks, III is a broody and gloomy doom album that brims like a cauldron full of heavy riffs, rumbling bass, growling vocals, and bone cracking drums. The trio explore not only a darker tale but darker sounds. Filled with distortion, fuzz, and heaviness III is a soundtrack to death.
