ALBUM REVIEW: Western Violence by Vazum

Since their formation in 2017, Detroit’s Zach Pliska and Emily Sturm, known collectively as Vazum, have been exploring  themes such as mental health, isolation, and the human condition.

That exploration continues with their latest album, Western Violence. The album enhances their reputation for creating hauntingly beautiful and powerful music, blending post-punk, gothic rock, and shoegaze with a fresh, expansive energy. Tracks like “Blush,” “Breach,” and “Nightshade” exemplify their unique “deathgaze” sound, characterised by moody guitars, ethereal vocals, and a rich array of sonic textures.

With their distinguished dark, introspective melodies and atmospheric music, Western Violence continues to push Vazum’s musical boundaries and delivers a cathartic listening experience.
