Rising from the ashes of their previous band, Mathias Jamtli Rye (vocals), Stian Hoel Fossen (guitars), and Fredrik Voje Vinje (bass) founded Haunted By Silhouettes in 2013 in Trondheim, Norway. Setting their ambitions high, they released their debut EP, The Final Mind Plague in 2014 which also saw Fredrik leaving the band.
Not to be deterred, Haunted By Silhouettes forged on and in 2017 recruited Per Kristian Grimsland on guitars. Stian says this of Per Kristian’s arrival:
Per Kristian might have had the biggest impact on the band. He was a driving force to make the band work on a more professional level, and he really stepped up our sonic sound with the production and mixing of our first two albums.
The single “Iskalde Blikk” arrived one year later and changed the course of the band. Cementing their status in the melodic death metal genre. The band released Shortcuts to Dead Ends in 2018 and The Last Day on Earth in 2019.
Now, in 2022, the band’s new EP No Man Isle, sees Haunted By Silhouettes ready to tackle the next step in their career.
Inspired by poet, John Donne, No Man Isle is a short concept story written Mathias that focuses on themes of solitary survival, family, independence and societal humanity. Mathias says,
No Man Isle centers around a middle-aged divorced man that decides to cut all ties with the world, and to live on his family’s deserted island for the rest of his life. He travels to the island and a lot of mysterious things happen that seem to be connected to his uncle’s disappearance from the island 40 years earlier.
No Man Isle is scheduled to be released worldwide on May 6, 2022 via Eclipse Records.
Pretty Vacant One will have a full review of No Man Isle on Friday, April 29.
