EP REVIEW: EP2 by The Know

Formed in late 2018, Daniel Knowles and Jennifer Farmer forwent travelling and stayed in LA to create music. The duo isolated themselves and spent a few weeks creating what would be their debut EP, wearetheknow.

During the pandemic, The Know buckled down and recorded EP2 while in isolation.

“Used to Be”, a song about the complexities of romantic relationships has Daniel confiding,

Then of course the pandemic hit, people all around us were having their relationships tested in lockdown with significant others, some relationships came out stronger, some didn’t survive. And on a more universal scale lots of people worldwide were dealing with a loss of normality, loss of connection with other people, suddenly not being able to do simple things like buy groceries, things we’d all taken for granted.

EP2 flows like a sundrenched 70’s California colours daydream. Each song transitions into the next with ease and comfort as if turning the pages in a book or blinking of the eyes. The music produces a hazy and warm feeling that at times feels like one is lost or alone and others surrounded by love and self-awareness. There is a palpable raw beauty within the lyrics and vocals that sinks its hooks in and does not let go.

On their song “Me”, Jennife says,

Is reminiscent of the start of a relationship and events between two people during lockdown but this one mostly covers the good stuff. It’s a love song about the thrill you feel when you connect with another person.

Within the dreamy 5 tracks of EP2, husband and wife duo, The Know, has wonderfully captured life that has been lived through moments of love, loss, isolation, connection, sadness, and uncertainty.
