Namibian folk/indie artist Sasha Dawe delivers an introspective yet uplifting journey with his forthcoming EP, Here I Am. Scheduled for release on March 21, the five-track collection draws from Sasha’s African heritage while embracing the universality of personal growth and perseverance.
From the opening notes of “Because We Forgot” to the stirring closer, “Survive”, Sasha combines tender acoustic melodies with thoughtful storytelling that create a rich listening experience. The EP’s standout track, “Who I Am,” captures the project’s themes of identity and resilience. Its soft guitar tones and layered piano lines feel intimate and expansive and is a testament to Sasha’s ability to craft music that connects without unnecessary complexity.
Sasha’s exploration of his roots are both personal and vivid, especially through the accompanying visuals. Filmed across the Namibian wilderness, the EP’s three music videos further immerse the listener in the cultural and natural landscapes that inspired these songs. Tracks like “River Divide” and “Running” reflect Sasha’s ability to infuse modern folk with a post-punk African edge and gives the music a fresh and distinctive feel.
What makes Here I Am compelling is its balance of poetic warmth and understated musicality. Sasha Dawe invites one on a reflective yet hopeful journey that seamlessly blends the personal and the universal in a way that sets this project apart. Here I Am is a testament to Sasha’s artistry and offers a unique and heartfelt take on modern folk.
