Ooooooooooooohhhh the guys and gals of Bitter Kisses have done it again. Another year and another firecracker of a track with their latest single, “Dissolve”. Around this time last year, the foursome of of Gemma Tracey (vocals), Thomas Adams (bass and vocals), Josh Butches (guitar and vocals), and Scarlett Cawley (drums) unleashed upon the world their their debut single “Pr*y” and the band has been releasing hot track after hot track ever since.
“Dissolve” continues that hot streak and what I’ve loved about watching Bitter Kisses’ growth is how far they’ve come from their debut single to now. When they emerged there was a slight pop feel to their music. The band even describe themselves as “pop music you can beat your friends up to” but I think they can drop the pop from their self description because pop doesn’t suit them anymore and I’m not really sure it ever did. They have evolved into a wonderful rock band with hooky guitar riffs, rumbling bass, thundering drums, and fierce vocals.
This evolution of their sound is evident in “Dissolve” and it’s the band’s heaviest track to date and my absolute favourite they’ve released so far.
There’s a wonderful sense of wrath and hostility in “Dissolve” that the band has transmuted into heavy drums and angry vocals. The aggression in the guitars, bass, and synths reminds me of animosity that I hear in both Nine Inch Nails song “Sanctified” and “Terrible Lie”.
Bitter Kisses has found their venomous villain era with “Dissolve” and have transformed their ‘pop music you beat your friends up to’ into ‘music you can thrash in a pit to’. “Dissolve” is a sonically refreshing rock track from start to finish.
