If I’m honest, I wouldn’t know Lewis Capaldi out of a line up of two and I wouldn’t know a song of his if someone played it for me. So my first foray into Lewis’ music was through the brilliant cover of “Forget Me” by All the Damn Vampires and Brandon Saller of Atreyu, and I must say, after listening to the original, I prefer their cover over the original.
There’s a depth and soul in this track that the original doesn’t quite capture. All the Damn Vampires and Brandon infuse the song with a palpable sense of longing. At the heart of this reimagined masterpiece are Brandon’s vocals, which carries an unmistakable weight of hurt and vulnerability. A departure from his heavier vocal style in Atreyu, his vocal performance perfectly complements the music. It’s the synergy between All the Damn Vampires‘ signature retro synth sound and Brandon’s emotive vocals that creates a sonic tapestry that transports one to a bygone era. It’s as if the track was plucked straight from an 80s John Hughes film, capturing the essence of that iconic decade’s cinematic and musical aesthetic.
All the Damn Vampires and Brandon Saller have conjured a captivating rendition of “Forget Me” that transcends the boundaries of the original. Their collaboration breathes a profound sense of longing into the track, infusing it with a haunting emotional depth that resonates deep within one’s soul.
