Dragging fans and new fans into the depths of their ever-expanding sonic universe, heavy psych rockers AAWKS have returned with “Lost Dwellers”. The third single from On Through The Sky Maze, out on March 21, is a thick swirling haze of stoner riffs, doom-laden atmosphere, and sludge-fueled intensity that proves the band’s grip on the heavier side of psychedelia is stronger than ever.
AAWKS thrive on contrast where crushing low-end fuzz collides with hypnotic melodies, while weighty rhythms pull one through the song like an unstoppable tide. The production keeps things raw but balanced, allowing the sheer power of the instrumentation to shine without sacrificing clarity. Adding another layer to the band’s already towering sound is the addition of Ryan “Grimepup” Mailman on bass and vocals. He injects fresh energy into the band and makes the track feel even more commanding.
Embracing the otherworldly, “Lost Dwellers” taps into the world of the occult and the unknown. It’s a song that feels both cinematic and primal and captures the feeling of wandering through a fog-drenched abyss with no clear way out.
While the band didn’t go anywhere per se, “Lost Dwellers” serves as a thunderous warning that AAWKS are back, and they’re heavier, darker, and more unrelenting than ever.
