I can’t believe we’re already being treated to new music from Genus Ordinis Dei. Last year’s The Beginning still seems like yesterday, but Genus Ordinis Dei is not a band to rest on their laurels.
Their latest single, “Three Kings,” is a mesmerising triumph of symphonic death metal. If this track is any indication, Genus Ordinis Dei is poised to surpass the masterpiece that was The Beginning.
“Three Kings” isn’t merely a song; it’s a narrative masterpiece that showcases Genus Ordinis Dei’s mastery in storytelling. Whether exploring a virus’ perspective in “The Entropic Queen”, Eleanor’s persecution in Glare of Deliverance, or the prehistoric saga of siblings in The Beginning, Genus Ordinis Dei consistently sends shivers down listeners’ spines with their music.
In “Three Kings,” the band narrates a tale of betrayal, survival, and vindication, where two kings are betrayed by their closest allies and fight valiantly to reclaim their thrones.
Only Genus Ordinis Dei could capture such a saga within a four-minute-and-thirty-six-second song. The trio accomplishes this with exquisite orchestration ranging from ominous strings to commanding brass, complemented by thunderous drums and bass, harmonious vocals, and electrifying raw energy.
Like previous releases, Genus Ordinis Dei transforms the song’s narration into another stunning video. This time with director Steve Saints. With “Three Kings,” Genus Ordinis Dei transports one to a majestic mediaeval kingdom, painting a vivid world beyond imagination.
