Good lord, I can’t keep up with Ren and that’s not a complaint. In the last 9 days, the disrupter of the music scene has released not one but two brilliant tracks.
First came, “Love Music, Part 4” and geez Louise it’s ridiculously infectious from lyrics to beats. At first, I was a bit taken aback by the lyrics but also having gone back through Ren’s catalogue after being hooked by “Hi Ren”, I knew the vibes of the “Love Music” world. I guess, I mentally expected the continued lyrical seriousness he’s been releasing, but it was fun and frivolity. And to be honest, it’s much needed in today’s world and I suppose the master crafter also needed some lighthearted silliness as well.
What makes me giggle is the disdain Ren speaks of at the beginning of the song, acknowledging the “over done” of perhaps the “Love Music” series, but then he pulls the rug out from under all of us and absolutely slays everyone in his path with the song.
As a writer, I would love to sit down with Ren and discuss how his words come to be, but I would also love to know if he ever gets tongue tied when he’s rhyming because “Love Music, Part 4” has speed I’ve only heard from Eminem. Ren’s speed and flow is what makes “Love Music, Part 4” great but the lyrics are what makes it ridiculously infectious as earlier said.
And yes, there are Parts 1, 2, and 3 (below) in case you aren’t Ren fans (and also, why aren’t you a fan…seriously, this man could be the catalyst for changing the music industry for generations to come).
The second track Ren released was “Down on the Beat” featuring Viktus and honestly my first thought was everyone can stop making music and go home.
We’re nearing nine months into 2023 and Ren has released not one but seven singles and that excludes “Bittersweet Symphony” and “Dumb King Come (King Dotta Diss)” which are currently only available via his YouTube channel and each track has been hot.
Continuing that hotness is “Down on the Beat” and let me tell you there is nothing down about the beat. It’s in-fucking-fectious and the lyrics are whip smart, snarky, and quick. The addition of Viktus offers a nice vocal contrast that matches the deep tones of the drum.
Honestly, is there no stopping Ren?
