With a Nashville twang but a true blue Aussie heart, Dan Lynch’s latest single “Australia” is blend of Australiana and Americana.
Hailing from Sydney, Dan said this of the song,
After I wrote the chords and lyrics, I took it to Dario Bortolin’s home studio and together we built on the song by mapping out a rock version and an acoustic version. Once we were happy, Dario arranged for session musicians to record parts, with the recording taking place at both his home studio and at Studios 301.
I might have been born in the US, but Sydney, Australia is my forever home, and while the lyrics do explore the connection to country and life as an Australian, the lyrics can connect anyone to their home wherever it may be.
Lyrically, “Australia” covers all the great things about this glorious country. Yes, I am biassed towards Australia, I mean, I did expatriate here, but Dan is speaking the truth with his lyrics. I also like how Dan acknowledges the First Peoples of Australia with his lyric “in the place of the dreaming”. It’s a small nod but a meaningful nod nonetheless to the traditional landowners of this country.
Dan vocally echoes Glen Phillips of Toad the Wet Sprocket. One can tell he’s comfortable with himself and his voice. He vocally, musically, lyricall delivers a song that celebrates Australia past, present, and future.
