The return of The Lonely Surf arrives in their newest single, “Happiness”, and the track sees the band seamlessly picking up where “12 Months Out” left off in sound.
A sound that harkens back to the 00s Warped Tour decade, where music was carefree, catchy, and fun. A sound that is greatly missed by myself and probably elder emos as well.
Like its predecessor, “Happiness” is a lively and vibrant jam with pulsating rhythms, catchy melodies, and honest lyrics. The song skillfully intertwines the best of indie punk and alt rock with a fresh vibrancy.
On the song, frontman Dom Wright says,
“Happiness is a song about moving on from relationships and reflecting on times when you could have done better. It’s also about the weird stages you go through after a relationship ends and losing sight of what gives you your sense of self.”
Through its blend of honest storytelling and irresistible hooks, “Happiness” is a song that not only one (and audiences) can enthusiastically sing along with but can rock out to…air guitar or real guitar…one’s choice.
