LISTEN: “Islands” by Ski Team

With her latest single “Islands,” Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Ski Team (Lucie Lozinski) offers an intimate and organic experience that stands as a thoughtful counterpart to her earlier release, “Me.” While “Me” dazzles with its polished, layered production, “Islands” draws one in with its unfiltered sincerity and spontaneous creation.

Crafted alongside producer Daniel Knowles (known for work with Sharon Van Etten and Cigarettes After Sex), “Islands” was born out of a unique and instinctual process. The artist explains,

“I wrote ‘Islands’ while producing ‘Me’—the bass sounded like crickets, and I started looping it and singing over it. The improvised melody and harmony had something so sweet and somber about it. Then we just rapid-fire layered harmonies, all unplanned, just whatever I felt like singing.”

This unstructured approach is what makes the song so hypnotic. It thrives on its sense of immediacy and emotion, with layers of harmonies that feel both delicate and unrefined. The result is an expressive piece that feels uncontrived and born entirely from the moment.

She adds,

“There was very little planning and designing it. I just sang a song from the soul into the mic, and you can feel that.”

The song also reflects Lucie’s ethos of allowing creativity to unfold naturally which is a central theme of her upcoming EP. With Ski Team’s ability to balance experimental sounds with heartfelt simplicity, “Islands” captures the essence of music as a deeply personal yet universal form of expression.
