ALBUM REVIEW: Absolution by Street Fever

Absolution the sophomore album by Street Fever is a gripping and deeply personal journey through the tumultuous landscape of addiction, recovery, and institutionalisation.

From the infectious beats to the raw, unfiltered emotions laid bare in each track, Absolution is Street Fever’s exploration of his own harrowing journey of self-discovery and redemption. Through the fifteen tracks, Street Fever’s sonic tapestry is as captivating as it is eclectic. Whether it be techno, industrial, rap, or something completely different each song on the album pulses with a gritty energy, seamlessly blending genres to create a symphony of sound that defies categorization.

No matter the sound, the soul of Absolution lies in Street Fever‘s own aforementioned harrowing journey of self-discovery and redemption. Having faced the loss of everything they owned, multiple institutionalizations, and a near-death experience in a South East Asian prison, Street Fever channels their pain and resilience into every lyric and note. Street Fever travels into the darkest corners of the human psyche with unflinching honesty, and through that honesty gives one a spiritual awakening and for others offers a voice to those who may feel lost or alone in their struggles.

Street Fever hasn’t had an easy life and they could have easily let those lowest of the lows dictate the structure of Absolution, but there’s no disassociation between tracks. There’s an easy flow from one song into the next, and it’s this sense of fluidity and consciousness of sound that makes Absolution. Highly emotional or calmer and sombre when needed the sound offers a logical and metaphysical journey that is quite cathartic. The lyrics cut to the core and aren’t for those seeking rainbows and sunshine. They poke and prod, ask the hard questions, speak of visceral emotions, and actions, but despite the harshness of the words they are a beacon of light for others facing their own ugly realities. Waves of synths and looping beats create an atmosphere that is pulsating with heart and at times ruminative and philosophical.

Absolution is dance floor ready while simultaneously being meditative ready.

Street Fever is proof that one can overcome the toughest of times, and Absolution is proof that through one’s resilience and strength, that the toughest of times can create wonderful art that disrupts society in a good way, that heals, and that can be hope for others.
