ALBUM REVIEW: Nowhwere by The Sweet Kill

Do you crave 80s goth? Particularly the sounds of Joy Division and Bauhaus? Then Nowhere the sophomore album from The Sweet Kill will satiate any hunger you crave but it may also increase the rumblings in your soul.

The diviner of millenarian angst, Pete Mills is the man behind the one man band that is The Sweet Kill and they’re delivering darwave melodies and broody lyrics that are luring one into a realm of dark intrigue.

On the album, Pete says,

“Nowhere questions the final analysis of the soul’s journey between life and death, are we eternally floating in the ether or are we never lost and always found?”

Kicking off the album, “Forbidden” is a haunting ode to clandestine desire that unfolds like a dark opera beneath the chilly glow of the moon. Pete’s velvety baritone serves as a beacon through the shadowy landscape, guiding one through a journey of forbidden romance and veiled longing.  Each track on Nowhere offers a unique glimpse into the depths of the human experience, from the eerie gloom of “Undead” to the seductive allure of “Queen,” which explores the timeless bond between lovers immersed in the dark reign of their gothic realm.

As Nowhere unfolds, themes of love, loss, and existential reflection intertwine, painting a vivid portrait of the human condition. Tracks like “Creeper” and “Divide” stare into the void of fear and the powerlessness to help others who struggle with their inner demons, while “Goodbye” serves as a poignant tribute to lost loved ones and the pain of unspoken goodbyes. Throughout it all, Pete’s emotive vocals and cinematic production transport one to a realm where darkness and light collide, inviting them to confront their deepest fears and desires.

With Nowhere, The Sweet Kill delivers a mesmerising sonic journey that transcends genre boundaries, offering a poignant meditation on life, death, and the eternal search for meaning. As each track unfolds, one is drawn deeper into The Sweet Kill’s’ enigmatic world, where every melody and lyric serves as a reflection of the human soul’s eternal quest for connection and understanding.
