EP REVIEW: The Spaces by Skies Behind

Music Review
Shelia Taylor
February 24, 2024

You want to know a first world problem? So much music, not a lot of time to listen to it all. I unfortunately have a real world job I have to adhere to if I would like to keep a roof over my head, so I am just getting to the latest EP, The Spaces from Skies Behind that came out last month. But I also think, the Universe has a funny way of putting music in your life when it’s right for you and right now, the vibe I am in aligns with the mood of The Spaces.

The Irish band deftly blends introspective lyrics with a musical tapestry that is a journey through trauma healing, vulnerability, strength, and more. Seven tracks deep, the sophomore effort offers an authentic experience of humanity through the passage of time. Not from birth to death, but from a life that has been lived and experienced.

Seamlessly entwining a lyrical celebration of life’s ups and downs with harmonious and stirring melodies, Skies Behind

captures the complexities a person can or does encounter through their life. The catharsis one feels while listening to the EP is that feeling of being heard, seen, or understood. It gives The Spaces a feeling of intimacy that is quite loud.

That contrast is what makes The Spaces comforting, but what makes the EP great is that Skies Behind gives voice to emotions that some may not be able to express themselves and in doing so, speaks for those that cannot find the words themselves.

MUST LISTEN TRACKS: “Red Eye”, “I Love It”, “Seven Months”, “CSB”
