Blending guttural aggression with outrageous humor in their signature style, comedy death metal crew Raised By Owls deliver a brutal, tongue-in-cheek twist on Limp Bizkit’s classic “Break Stuff” for their 2024 Christmas single. Known for their ability to turn metal into a satirical playground, the Derby quintet manage to stay faithful to the original’s primal energy while cranking up the heaviness to absurd new heights.
This isn’t just a one-off gimmick though. Fans who caught the band live this year at Bloodstock Open Air or their Death To False Comedy Metal tour will recognize the ferocious reinterpretation, which became a set-closing staple. On finally recording the track, the band share,
“Anybody who has seen Raised By Owls live this year will have noticed that we’ve been closing our set with an extreme metal cover of Limp Bizkit’s mega-hit, ‘Break Stuff.’ It’s been going down a storm among our fans and we knew early on that we wanted to jump into the studio to record our warped interpretation of this nu-metal banger.”
Accompanying the release is a charity drive benefiting Ashbourne Animal Welfare, with all proceeds donated to support the care and rehoming of stray and unwanted cats and dogs.
The band says,
“Ashbourne Animal Welfare is a wonderful local charity who take in, care for, and rehome unwanted or stray cats and dogs. The charity was founded in 1988 and has managed to help nearly 10K animals to date. The charity receives no government or lottery backing so is entirely dependent on the generosity of supporter’s donations.”
Adding a heartfelt layer to their otherwise riotous offering and packed with unrelenting riffs, monstrous growls, and a mischievous wink to Limp Bizkit’s nu-metal legacy, “Break Stuff” by Raised By Owls is a gloriously unhinged take that proves death metal can break boundaries and do some good along the way.
