Sleep Token fans everywhere are rejoicing and those, like myself, who enjoy the band’s music but may not dive deep into their cult world, will even be excited for their new single “Emergence”. After a heavy period of teasing, the Take Me Back to Eden band continue to showcase their ability to sonically evolve while staying true to their signature atmospheric and intense style.
From their forthcoming album Even In Arcadia (May 9th), “Emergence” won me over with the closing saxophone, but I am a sucker for a saxophone as much as I am a sucker for slick bass lines. While the track may not have the latter, it does have soulful vocals from masked vocalist Vessels, riffs for those that like heavier Sleep Token songs, and even some minimalistic piano at the beginning.
While I happen to discover the band through Instagram ads for the Take Me Back to Eden era, the song is unique enough to attract new fans while continuing to satiate long time fans who adore Sleep Token. I think it will be interesting to see how Even In Arcadia continues to shape the band’s legacy and with “Emergence”, one can definitely say Sleep Token has reemerged from deep slumber and is ready to leave a mark on the musical world.
