Due to an out of control inbox, I’m late to the party of alx frncs. Excuses aside, I’m here now and her latest single, “i cant do anything right” is a journey through the depths of depression and isolation during lockdown in the UK.
Through delicate harmonies and synths, the song paints a vivid portrait of the struggles faced by many wrestling with mental health challenges. alx’s introspective lyrics dive head first into the complexities of navigating a fractured family dynamic, intertwined with the weight of existential dread and anger. With honesty and vulnerability, she explores the unspoken truths of living with mental health issues in a time of social and physical isolation that many if not most of us experienced during the pandemic.
On the song, she says
“I wrote ‘i can’t do anything right’ after coming out of a deep depression. Personal situations were beginning to change and it finally felt like I could process what had happened to me both physically and mentally during the second half of the pandemic. The song is an ode to my flatmates that kept me just above water, but also how I felt like a burden to everyone around me.”
Despite the weighty subject matter, “i cant do anything right” there’s an optimistic energy within the track that offers a glimmer of hope amidst the darkness. It’s a testament to alx’s ability to find beauty in the midst of pain, and her willingness to confront difficult emotions head-on.
