LISTEN: “Relentless Thelemic” by Slaughtersun

“Relentless Thelemic”, the follow up to their debut single, “Fall of the Firmament” finds Slaughtersun looking at religion instead of reflecting on the collapse of the world.

Like its predecessor, “Relentless Thelemic” is a bombastic assault on the senses. From the blistering drums by Jason Quinones to the antagonistic riffs from guitarist Ben Karas and bassist Cody McCorry to the apocalyptic vocals of Justin Hillman, the assault of the sensory faculties is a first rate experience in every sense.

On the song, Ben says,

“’Relentless Thelemic’ explores the burnout of a metaphysical polytheism; worshipping too many gods and failing to tend to the self. The rituals we all endure to maintain our environment. Our Household. Our community. And where that leaves us when it’s all over.”

What I enjoy about both tracks is that while both are brutal and unrelenting, there is finesse and mastery to how Slaughtersun play. Sometimes music, especially in the metal realm, can become chaotic noise, but that’s not the case with Slaughtersun or “Relentless Thelemic”. Both the band and the song are precise, methodical, and meticulous in  delivery and in its message.
